Brightin Star
The Minolta M-Rokkor 28mm f/2.8 is a compact manual focus wide-angle prime lens for Leica M-mount rangefinder cameras, originally developed to expand the lens lineup for the Minolta CL and CLE cameras. Its low profile and generously broad depth of field make it well suited to travel, group shots, scenic vistas, and quick "grab" shots, while remaining compact enough to pair naturally with a standard 50mm lens as a two-lens rangefinder kit. The 75° angle of view and f/2.8 maximum aperture strike a practical balance between wide-angle coverage and everyday usability.
The optical formula consists of 7 elements in 5 groups, and a 10-blade diaphragm was chosen for smooth aperture transitions despite the lens's modest maximum aperture. The all-metal body is compact and lightweight at just 136g and 51mm in diameter, and the lens reaches a 0.8m minimum focus distance. As a Leica M-mount lens, it is fully compatible with any 35mm rangefinder camera using the M bayonet, and can be adapted to modern mirrorless systems (Sony E, Nikon Z, and others) via a simple M-mount adapter, with 6-bit coded adapters available to add EXIF lens data on compatible digital Leica bodies.
