The Tamron SP 70-200mm f/2.8 Di VC USD G2 is a professional telephoto zoom lens built for Nikon F-mount FX DSLRs, also compatible with DX-format bodies. Its constant f/2.8 maximum aperture holds steady throughout the zoom range, making it a strong all-around choice for sports, events, wildlife, and portrait work.
The optical design uses 23 elements in 17 groups, including one XLD and five LD elements, with eBAND, BBAR, and fluorine coatings to help control flare, ghosting, and keep the front element resistant to dirt and smudges. A ring-type Ultrasonic Silent Drive (USD) motor delivers fast, precise autofocus, and Tamron's Vibration Compensation system corrects for up to five stops of camera shake across three shooting-specific modes. The lens uses an electromagnetic aperture diaphragm (Nikon "E-Type"), so it requires a relatively modern Nikon body to function correctly. Dust and moisture-resistant construction, a rounded nine-blade diaphragm, and a removable Arca-compatible tripod mount round out a build aimed at demanding professional use, and the lens supports Tamron's TAP-in Console for firmware updates and fine-tuning.
