Used Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI-S Lens
The Nikon Nikkor 50mm f/1.4 AI-S is a manual focus standard prime lens for Nikon F mount 35mm SLR and DSLR cameras, representing the final iteration of Nikon's long-running 50mm f/1.4 optical lineage before the design carried over into the modern autofocus version. As a standard normal lens, it delivers a natural field of view close to human vision, and the fast f/1.4 maximum aperture makes it a capable choice for low-light shooting and portraiture where shallow depth of field and background separation are priorities. The all-metal construction gives the lens a substantial, well-built feel characteristic of Nikon's manual focus era.
The optical formula consists of 7 elements in 6 groups, and a 7-blade diaphragm operates in full-stop click increments from f/1.4 to f/16. The lens retains the AI meter-coupling ridge along with the folding metering prong ("rabbit ears"), allowing it to meter correctly on both older non-AI Nikon film bodies and modern AI-compatible bodies alike, and the AI-S designation adds a linear aperture-position indent that enables compatibility with Nikon's advanced Program and Shutter-priority AE modes on supported camera bodies. The lens reaches a 0.45m minimum focus distance, and its rubberized focus ring grip and smooth focusing action are consistent with Nikon's later manual focus optics.
