The Canon EOS 20D is an 8.2-megapixel APS-C DSLR that represented a significant step forward in Canon's prosumer lineup when it launched in 2004. Built for serious enthusiasts and working photographers who needed a reliable, responsive body, the 20D brought meaningful improvements over its predecessor — faster startup, a larger buffer, and a higher-resolution sensor — all wrapped in a magnesium-alloy shell that holds up well to regular use. It accepts the full range of Canon EF and EF-S lenses with a 1.6x crop factor, making it a capable entry point into the Canon EF ecosystem for film shooters, collectors, or anyone looking for a capable backup body.
At the heart of the 20D is Canon's DIGIC II image processor paired with a 22.5 × 15.0mm CMOS sensor, delivering images up to 3504 × 2336 pixels. The camera shoots continuous bursts at 5 fps with a buffer that handles up to 23 consecutive large/fine JPEGs, and its 9-point autofocus system with all cross-type points delivers fast, accurate subject acquisition. The shutter covers a range from 30 seconds to 1/8000 sec, and ISO sensitivity runs from 100 to 1600 with an expansion setting to 3200. A built-in E-TTL II pop-up flash, USB 2.0 connectivity, and CompactFlash card storage round out a feature set that remains practical and usable today.
